|
Wednesday, 05 April 2006 |
|
In order to address the growing information and technological needs of the
Asia and Pacific region, the International Open Source Network (IOSN) has
established three new Centres of Excellence IOSN ASEAN+3, IOSN PIC
(Pacific Island Countries), and IOSN South Asia. Together, these Centres
will continue the research and development, networking, institutional
strengthening, and training undertaken by IOSN over the last three years to
advance the adoption of free/open source software, open standards, and open
content across the region.
PS1: This is an excerpt from the e-mail sent by Sunil Abraham to apdip.net mailing lists. More information here.
PS2: I'll be in my wonderful hometown, Antalya, to give a speak about the upcoming 10 years' technologies and their impacts in our lives.
PS3:Back from Bulgarian F/OSS conference - had quite nice time there. Good (Ottoman-featured) food, nice weather, and thanks to Julia & Dessi for their flawless organization. |

Umut has finally released 1.0 version of Claros In Touch (previously known as Claros Webmail). It has full MIME support and built in spam protection (no server setup needed), provides folder support for the POP3 protocol, is bundled with an addressbook, calendar and a notebook application. Download Claros In Touch and other goodies from here, or get the FAQ.
Ps: Claros is an ancient Ionian city in Turkey, the city of prophecy and wisdom. There are Homeric hymnoses about the city from 6th 7th centuries BC, but most probably the city has its roots from long ago, maybe since the Hattian civilization (2000BC). |

THE KOREAN government is planning to create a Linux utopia, a place where open sauce flows freely and only Linux is used. The Ministry of Information and Communication (MIC) has revealed the scheme of building up the city and university to use as testing groups for open-source programs. Candidate cities and universities are to be selected by a government panel next week and the government will have made up its mind by late March. If selected, the city government and university will be have to install open-source software as a main operating infrastructure. More information Here. Go, Korea! |

Started writing "the" Pardus book |
|
Sunday, 29 January 2006 |
|
I've very recently started the book for Pardus, which is an easy-to-use operating system for desktop use. I'll only touch main desktop features of Pardus, and not explain the inner working principles of Linux operating system. I expect to write 300+ pages for Pardus. Time will show how much it will take. |
